Pet Of The Week: Maribell

Maribell is a 7-year-old lab mix. She is friendly with adults and older kids and enjoys belly rubs and snacks. She seeks a quiet home with a comfy bed in which to spend her days. Maribell has been spayed, vaccinated against rabies and is available for adoption. An adoption fee of $30 is required.

Three vacant mobile homes destroyed in fire

The Wichita Mountain Estates Fire Department responded to a grass fire at 12:41 p.m. Saturday on Little Bear Loop, east of U.S. Highway 62, Comanche County-Lawton Emergency Management Public Information Officer Amy Hawkins said in a news release.

No one injured in Wednesday grass fire

No one was injured and no buildings were damaged when a grass fire broke out earlier this week at the northwest corner of NE Cline Road and Northeast 135th Street, located in northeast Comanche County.   The Sterling Fire Department responded to the grass fire at about 4:55 p.m.

Elgin to celebrate fall with family festival

ELGIN – People looking for a fun way to spend a Saturday might want to stop by the Elgin Family Fall Festival. The Elgin Chamber of Commerce is hosting the brand-new event, which will run from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. Oct. 1 at the Elgin baseball field.

Sales tax receipts mixed for area municipalities

Area cities and towns had mixed results from their September sales tax receipts, according to figures provided by the Oklahoma Tax Commission. Elgin had the largest decline in revenue with $154,446 compared to $178,323 from the same time period a year ago.

Elgin designates Oct. 31 for trick-or-treat night

ELGIN – Halloween falls on a Monday this year, prompting some Oklahoma cities to move their official trick-or-treat night to another day. But Elgin is sticking with the traditional date. In a special meeting Monday, the Elgin City Council voted 3-0 to designate 6-8 p.m. Oct.
