The Wichita Mountain Estates Fire Department responded to a grass fire at 12:41 p.m. Saturday on Little Bear Loop, east of U.S. Highway 62, Comanche County-Lawton Emergency Management Public Information Officer Amy Hawkins said in a news release.
Upon arrival, firefighters found a fast-moving grass fire in tall grass threatening a structure and began firefighting operations. The department on the scene had the fire under control by 2:58 p.m.
Responding agencies include the Medicine Park Fire Department, the Porter Hill Fire Department,
Elgin Fire Department, Comanche Nation Fire Department, the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Kirk’s Ambulance, Hulen Fire, the Comanche County Sheriff’s Office, Comanche Nation Police and Comanche County-Lawton Emergency Management.
One firefighter was treated for heat injuries by Kirk’s EMS and released at the scene. Three unoccupied mobile homes were destroyed as a result of this fire. Approximately 15 acres were burnt, and the cause of the fire is currently under investigation by BIA investigators.
