ELGIN ANIMAL SHELTER FEATURED PET

Bear is a senior male Labrador-German Shepherd mix who seems to have spent the majority of his life outdoors, but has recently discovered he really enjoys his dog bed, a/c and heat indoors. Friendly with adults and older kids, Bear also gets along with well-mannered female dogs.

Lady Owls claim district title win 46-37

NORMAN — Freshman Kelby Carter scored five of Elgin’s final seven points in the last 34 seconds to propel the Lady Owls to a 46-37 win and a Class 4A district championship over Community Christian Friday night.

Owls cruise to district title 50-29

NORMAN — Elgin used a dominating third-quarter performance to build a 23-point lead over Community Christian School and cruise to a Class 4A district championship win Friday night. The Owls held a 38-15 lead at halftime en route to its 50-29 victory.

Swimmers want big splash of medals at state meet

ELGIN — Swimmers Ellie Stevenson and Mason Thompson are aiming to make a big splash at this weekend’s Class 5A state championships. Stevenson, a junior, and Thompson, a senior, will swim in multiple events, so the chance at winning a medal and being named to the All-State team is high.

Owls end regular season with 70-39 win

ELGIN — After two consecutive losses to ranked teams, Elgin ended its regular season with a resounding 70-39 win over the Duncan Demons Tuesday night. The victory came on the backside of losses to No. 1 Kingfisher 55-27 and to No. 3 Weatherford 51-26 last week.

At almost 7 years old, Layce is ready for a loving home. She is good with older kids, and ok with cats, but prefers to be an only dog. She enjoys brisk walks, keeps herself very clean, is housetrained, and loads herself into a vehicle for traveling. Layce is spayed, and current on vaccinations.

ENID — Elgin’s wrestling team reached the pinnacle of the Class 5A mountaintop, as they claimed their first-ever Dual State Championship with three convincing wins over ranked opponents last week at the Stride Bank Center. “This was unique,” head coach Cody Rowell said.

Elgin wrestlers wins state title

ENID — Top-ranked Elgin claimed the Class 5A Dual State championship Saturday night with a convincing 40-27 over No. 2 Coweta. Earlier in the day, Elgin defeated No. 5 Collinsville 48-21 in the semifinal round.
