Owl mascot returns from Citrus Bowl with great memories

ELGIN — Elgin mascot Ben Roberts hopes to turn his time in the Owl costume into a college education at a major university, and his performance at this year’s Citrus Bowl is helping him get there. Roberts has received offers from three Division I schools, but he’d rather not disclose which ones yet.

16 Elgin swimmers qualify for Class 5A state meet

EDMOND — Sixteen Elgin swimmers qualified for the Class 5A State Swim Meet, more than any other year in recent history, head coach Corey Grochow said. “It went really, really well,” Grochow said of the team’s performance at last week’s 5A West Regional.

ELGIN — Owl head football coach Chalmer Wyatt has been selected as Region 4 Coach of the Year for the 2022 season. Wyatt led Elgin to an 8-3 record and a spot in the playoffs for the first time in five years. “It’s pretty cool,” Wyatt said of the award. “It’s really neat.

ELGIN — Elgin’s varsity wrestlers are healthy and ready for action today, when they take on Pryor in the first round of the Class 5A Dual State Tournament in Enid. “We’ve been training well, and we’re just anxious to get there,” head coach Cody Rowell said.

Elgin basketball games, homecoming reset

The Elgin-Weatherford varsity basketball games have been rescheduled for Feb. 11 at Weatherford. The varsity girls will play at 1 p.m., and the varsity boys will play at 2:30 p.m. The game was initially set for Jan. 24 but was postponed due to inclement weather.

No. 10 Tuttle sweeps past Elgin, 47-31

ELGIN — A low-scoring second half doomed Elgin last Friday, as Tuttle ran away from the Owls with a 47-31 victory. The loss dropped Elgin to 9-8 for the season. “We played pretty good the first half and scored pretty handily,” Elgin head coach Ryan Green said.

Tuttle dominates Lady Owls for second time

ELGIN — A late first-half scoring spree and a solid defensive performance propelled the Tuttle Lady Tigers to a dominating 64-30 win over Elgin last Friday. Elgin dropped to 11-6 for the season as it lost for the second time to Tuttle. Earlier in the season, Tuttle defeated the Lady Owls, 60-31.

These giant, rowdy but friendly boys are 7-month-old Great Dane/German Shepherd mixes. Like peas in a pod these two brothers like to explore, wrestle, and roughhouse with each other. Both are social, good with other dogs, and will make large loyal companions.
