Memorial Day ceremony set at Fort Sill National Cemetery

FORT SILL NATIONAL CEMETERY – The Department of Veterans Affairs will host a wreath-laying ceremony here, accompanied by speeches, a moment of silence, and the playing of Taps and a rifle volley, in commemoration of Memorial Day. The May 30 event will start at 10 a.m.

Donation drive to benefit Cub Scout Pack 185

ELGIN – From noon to 4 p.m., Saturday, June 4, Goodwill Industries will have a truck parked at the Elgin Arvest Bank to accept donations, and a monetary portion of those donations will benefit the Cub Scouts, Pack Committee chair Angela Brandt said.

Library to host annual snake safety seminar

ELGIN – Slither on in to learn the good, bad and the ugly about some of the snakes in the area as Elgin Community Library hosts its third annual snake safety seminar. Last year approximately 30 people attended class, only a handful fewer than the year before, said Library Director Leslie Durham.

Elgin OKS comprehensive fee schedule

ELGIN – Elgin now has a comprehensive list of the city’s fees for various services. The Elgin City Council adopted the master fee schedule, which covers everything from copying fees for public records to library fees, on Tuesday. The schedule is already in effect.

Elgin boys track team was crowned the Class 5A Academic State Champions with a grade point average of 3.948.
