ELGIN – Building on the success of the annual Plant and Seed Swap, Elgin Community Library will host Saturday Swaps, announced Library Director Leslie Durham.

Since 2019 the library has hosted a plant and seed swap, where, in addition to plants being exchanged between those who attend, experts have taught classes at on how to properly plant plants.

Saturday Swaps will be an exchange of items people may not want or need for their projects.

“People tend to buy things they really want in that moment and then maybe they lose interest in it, or it may not be what they want,” said Durham. “Maybe it’s not the right color, or what they thought they were going to do with it they’re not going to use it, whatever the case may be.”

Centered around sewing, the first Saturday Swap is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., May 21, at the library.

The week preceding, patrons can bring to the library any clean, gently used material, thread, quilting notions, patterns and more to be exchanged or given away. Any leftovers will be donated, Durham said.

“The third Saturday of every month we will offer a swap,” she said.

The Saturday Swaps schedule has been established through December.
