ELGIN – Elgin now has a comprehensive list of the city’s fees for various services.
The Elgin City Council adopted the master fee schedule, which covers everything from copying fees for public records to library fees, on Tuesday. The schedule is already in effect.
About 95% of the fees were already in place, but the council wanted to adopt a comprehensive schedule to make it easier for residents to know how much the city charges for services, Mayor JJ Francais said in an email to an SW Chronicle reporter.
Francais said the council did approved some new fees, including an intergovernmental fee for the animal shelter which will allow the shelter to accept animals from surrounding communities.
“They will in essence pay a surrender fee to Elgin, but this will mean they will not have to maintain a pound of their own,” he said.
In other business, the council:
- Approved a proposal from Rainbow Fireworks Inc. to put on a fireworks display during the upcoming Sounds of Freedom Festival. The city will pay Rainbow Fireworks $27,500 for the display.
- Approved a site agreement with J.J.’s Pro Audio and B/S Productions Co. to coordinate, stage and promote entertainment during the festival. The city will pay the promoters $23,000 for their work.
Entertainment will include a concert featuring Crosswind, Dani Carson Music and The Jamie Richards Band. The concert, which will take place directly across A Street in the soccer fields to the east of the vendor area (baseball fields), will begin at 6 p.m. and end about 10 p.m.
The fireworks display will begin immediately after the concert.
- Approved a proposal from race timer Jon Hughes of Fletcher to time the runners for the Elgin 5K race, which is part of the festival. The city will pay Hughes between $600 and $800 for his work on the race, depending on the number of registered runners.
