ELGIN - Demetrius White plans to give Elgin and surrounding communities home cooking away from home when his DWhite’s restaurant opens later this month.

Elgin’s Tucker pursuing his passion through rodeos

CHICKASHA – Garrett Tucker was “goofing off” when he tried his hand at bronc riding 10 years ago, but now he’s riding those wild horses almost every weekend. That was the case June 24-25 as Tucker competed in the 83rd Chickasha Open Rodeo where he finished third in the bronc riding and earned $260.

OKLAHOMA CITY – A recent Elgin graduate is one of 100 outstanding seniors from across the state to be recognized by the Oklahoma Foundation for Excellence during the organization’s annual Academic Awards Banquet in Oklahoma City.

Livestock company keeps state’s rodeos going

STERLING – A family-owned livestock business that spans four generations has kept Don and Mary Jean Dees busy organizing Oklahoma rodeos for the last 50 years. Rafter D Rodeo was started in the early 1970s by the couple and life has never slowed down.

Turner seeking seventh term on county commission

LAWTON – County government has changed dramatically in the 24 years since Comanche County Commissioner Gail Turner began his service on the commission, he said. “Our monies haven’t changed much, but our expenses have changed a whole lot,” he said in a June 13 interview.
