Local communities celebrate America’s Independence Day

ELGIN — Elgin’s third annual Sounds of Freedom Festival, set for Saturday, July 1, will feature a live concert and fireworks show. The festival will be held at Elgin’s Municipal Park/Ballfields located at 385 Commerce (formerly A) Street. The Kat Pratt Band will headline with special guests Bret James and Jack Tidwell. Live music begins at 4 p.m., followed by fireworks at dark. 

CEMENT —  The town of Cement will also hold its Fourth of July Celebration on Saturday, July 1. Festivities will be held at Cement Fairgrounds, located at 501 N. Main Street. Free hotdogs will be served, courtesy of the police department. Activities begin at 4 p.m. and include food trucks, a bounce house, snow cone trailer, dunk tank, sack races, live music from Solemn Road, and fireworks at dark.

MEDICINE PARK — (June 30-July 2) Medicine Park’s “Rocking the Park” will showcase nine live bands over two days at Medicine Park’s Hitchin Post Park, located at 198 Lake Crest Drive. Fireworks will take place at dark on Sunday, July 2.

CYRIL — Cyril will host their Fourth of July Celebration on Tuesday, July 4, at Keith Coleman Memorial Park located at 501 6th Street. Festivities will include concessions, chili cookoff at 5 p.m., free community meal at 6 p.m., and turtle races, egg toss, games at 7 p.m. A fireworks show will conclude at dark. Guests are asked to bring baked goods and desserts for the community meal.

FLETCHER — Fletcher’s annual Fireworks display will be held Saturday, July 8 at the Fletcher Fairgrounds. At 4 p.m., an air-conditioned building will be open for bingo hosted by the American Legion. The food truck, “Get Your Grubbs On” will sell hamburgers, and fireworks begin at dark.
