Free training for area firefighters

STERLING – Local firefighters are invited to attend an 8-hour lifesaving training on Saturday, Aug. 6.

From 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Oklahoma State University’s Fire Service Training will hold its New Vehicle Technology workshop at the Sterling Volunteer Fire Department, 222 W. James St. in Sterling.

Instructed by Gary Baustert, Jason Louthan, and John Vietta, the class is designed to help first responders stay current on technological advances in newer vehicles, such as airbags, seat belts, rollover protection systems, hybrids and more, OSU’s Fire Service Training’s website states.

The program is part of OSU’s College of Engineering, Architecture and Technology. Last year OSUFST held 3,417 courses and trained more than 34,000 students across the state.
