LAWTON – Comanche County officials have added a cybersecurity system to the list of projects that will be financed with part of the county’s share of American Rescue Plan Act funds.

The Comanche County Board of Commissioners approved on Monday a one-year contract with the Tulsa-based company Apprentice Information Systems of Oklahoma, which may be renewed for another year. The company will provide a variety of services to the county, including a countywide email system and antivirus protection on all work stations.

“This is for the IT (information technology), where we have a little safer cybersecurity, a little safer email system for the county,” said Commission Chairman Alvin Cargill.

The county will pay AIS $55,855 for start-up and installation, plus an annual fee thereafter of about $26,900. The county will tap its share of ARPA funds for the project.

The county received about $23 million in federal aid through ARPA, a 2021 law designed to help local units of government recover from the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

In other business, the commission:

• Approved a material and installation agreement with Debbie McDonald of McDonald Properties, which owns Wild Ridge Estates, for completing roads in Wild Ridge Estates Parts 1, 2 and 3. McDonald will pay the county $115,933.15 to cover the cost of materials, labor and equipment.

The commission also established the “Escrow Wild Ridge Estates Parts 1-3” fund for the project with the county clerk and the county treasurer. McDonald’s payment will be deposited in that fund.

• Approved a material and installation agreement with Highland Hills Addition owner Kari Smith for completing roads in Highland Hills Addition. Smith will pay the county $38,907.24 to cover the cost of materials, labor and equipment.

The commission also established the “Escrow Highland Hills Addition” fund for the project with the county clerk and the county treasurer. Smith’s payment will be deposited in that fund.
