Fletcher Free Fair kicks off Sept. 1

FLETCHER – Fletcher’s annual Free Fair will feature beef, goat, sheep and swine shows combined with a Sept. 2 parade and live entertainment. The purpose of the event, which began around 1952, has been to raise money for the junior and senior classes at Fletcher High School.

Fletcher's Caleb Campbell named academic all-stater

FLETCHER – Caleb Campbell had an outstanding academic career at Fletcher High School and his plan is to build on those accomplishments at Oklahoma Baptist University in Shawnee.

School districts predict increased enrollment

ELGIN – Elgin Public Schools will likely experience an increase in enrollment as new military families move into the district, Superintendent Nathaniel Meraz said. “Right now, we are full and at capacity, but that doesn’t matter. Military families can choose where they want to go,” he said.

Independence Day in the Wichitas

Independence Day festivities will be plentiful in the Comanche County communities of Elgin, Medicine Park, Fletcher, Wichita Mountain Estates and Sterling. ELGIN Elgin’s 2nd annual Sounds of Freedom Festival will be held Saturday, July 2 at the Youth Sports Complex. Festivities begin at 8 a.m.

Fletcher to celebrate 120th birthday July 2

Fletcher will celebrate its 120th anniversary this summer, combined with a fundraiser to help the Fletcher Volunteer Fire Department purchase the Jaws of Life and bunker gear.   The American Legion and Auxiliary, Post 306, will host the daylong Fletcher Birthday Fest on July 2.

Vandals set fire to Fletcher clothing donation box

Fletcher police are investigating multiple acts of vandalism, some of which they believe occurred overnight Sunday and were discovered Monday. In one incident, police said a group of unidentified suspects set fire to a clothing donation box on Cole Avenue Sunday.

Fletcher ushers in autumn with traditional Fall Festival, adds new Miss Fall Fest contest

The Fletcher community gathered Saturday to welcome the season in the newly paved downtown area. The Fletcher Fall Street Festival ran from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. This year’s events were organized by Eden Smith and Nettie Fisher. The pair worked tirelessly along with the help of many other volunteers.
