PARADISE VALLEY – Paradise Valley Volunteer Fire Department held their annual fish fry fundraiser Saturday, June 4.

From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., along with live music by Anthony Spencer, supporters enjoyed fresh fried fish, barbeque, coleslaw, potato salad, french fries, hushpuppies and a dessert.

The department, located at 6851 NW Meers Porter Hill Road, is manned by 16 volunteer firefighters, said Fire Chief Tom Zivkovic. “We have an engine, a tanker, four brush trucks, a rescue, and a boat,” he said.

“Our coverage area is northwest Comanche County, basically the northwest side of Lake Lawtonka,” said the chief. Of the estimated 70 calls to which the department has responded, most from “mainly Meers and Porter Hill” have been medical.

When asked about how the department utilizes the money raised from the annual fish fry, the chief said, “Proceeds go for vehicle maintenance, new turnout gear for some of our members, and training.”

Chief Zivkovic has been with the department since 2009. The annual fish fry was “up and running before I got here,” he said jovially.

“We had a great turnout this year and are very thankful for the support we have received from the community,” said the chief.
