CYRIL — Police made a second arrest Thursday in the disappearance of a missing 4-year-old Cyril girl, seeking charges of murder in the first degree and child neglect.
Ivon Adams, 35, was arrested in Phoenix, Arizona, Thursday and is being held in the Maricopa County Jail in lieu of a $1,000,000 bond. Adams is expected to be extradited to Oklahoma within the next 30 days.
Cleveland County court records indicate Ivon Adams is the husband of Alysia Adams, 30, who was also arrested Thursday on two counts of child neglect. Alysia Adams is currently being held in the Caddo County Jail. Her bond information was not available at press time Friday.
Records indicate investigators obtained evidence to support the charges sought against Ivon and Alysia Adams from cell phones used by both suspects. Deleted text messages, location information and other data discovered during a forensic investigation of the phones led authorities to a location in Grady County, where the search for 4-year-old Athena Brownfield continued as of 8 p.m. Friday.
As of press time, Athena Brownfield remained missing.
The search for Athena Brownfield began Tuesday after a postal carrier reported finding the girl’s 5-year-old sister near a home at 225 W. Nebraska in Cyril. The postal carrier reported the incident to Cyril police, who quickly discovered Athena was missing.
Alysia and Ivon Adams are described by Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation agents as caretakers of the children. Records filed with the warrant in Arizona indicate Ivon Adams, a former Marine, lived with Brownfield in Cyril.
The affidavit indicates Ivon Adams faces “pending child homicide charges in Oklahoma.” He was arraigned in court Friday, where he waived his right to an extradition hearing — a move authorities say will expedite his return to Oklahoma.
Athena's sister is currently in the custody of the Oklahoma Department of Human Services.
