Central hands Sterling first loss of season, 44-32

STERLING – A stronger, taller Central High team held a four-point halftime lead and never looked back while handing the Sterling Tigers their first loss of the season 44-32 Tuesday night.

Lady Tigers sweep past Central High 55-22 for third straight win

STERLING – Emma Nunley tallied a game-high 22 points as the Sterling Lady Tigers breezed to a 55-22 win over the Central High Bronchos Tuesday night. Sterling, 4-1, won its third consecutive game in relatively easy fashion jumping out to a 15-8 first-period lead.

Guthrie ends Elgin season with 17-0 playoff win

ELGIN — A strong running game pushed the Guthrie Bluejays to a 17-0 win over the Elgin Owls Friday night in a first-round Class 5A playoff game. Elgin, which finishes the season 8-3, struggled offensively while the Guthrie rushing attack punished Elgin defenders for most of the game.

Late surge propels Elgin past MacArthur, 20-13

LAWTON — Elgin’s offense held Thursday night thanks in large part to sophomore quarterback Tres Lorah, who ran for a touchdown and threw the game-winning pass, propelling the Owls to victory over Lawton MacArthur and grabbing a spot in the Class 5A playoffs.

Elgin faces unique challenge from Altus

ELGIN – For the second week in a row, the Elgin defense will have a challenge that is unique and could cause some damage. Although Altus is winless at 0-5, the Bulldogs run the flex-bone offense that is capable of causing problems for opposing defenses.

Elgin Lady Owls win play-in series, advances to regional tourney

ELGIN – Winning the best two of three games was the goal, and that’s what happened Saturday as the Elgin Lady Owls swept a pair from Sulphur to advance to next week’s Class 4A regional tournament in Weatherford.

Sterling softball team advances to Class A state tournament

STERLING – Sterling’s softball team won three regional games in a row to advance to this week’s Class A state tournament at Oklahoma City’s Hall of Fame Stadium. Sterling’s last regional win, an 11-0 shutout of Binger-Oney, pushed the Lady Tigers into the state tourney.

Elgin boys win Newcastle cross-country meet

ELGIN – Three Elgin cross-country runners finished in the top 15 as the Owls won the Newcastle Invitational last week. Hunter Monostori crossed the finish line first with a time of 16:03, while teammate Jordan Pierce was third with a time of 16:39. “We ran OK.

Am-Po ends Sterling season with 18-12 win in regional tourney

RATTAN – Sterling was one win away from the Class A state baseball tournament, but Amber-Pocasset’s bats proved too much during an 18-12 win in regional play last week. Am-Po’s eight-run fourth inning was the critical point in the game, as Sterling couldn’t recover from a 14-4 deficit.
