Livestock company keeps state’s rodeos going

STERLING – A family-owned livestock business that spans four generations has kept Don and Mary Jean Dees busy organizing Oklahoma rodeos for the last 50 years. Rafter D Rodeo was started in the early 1970s by the couple and life has never slowed down.

Elgin’s Tucker pursuing his passion through rodeos

CHICKASHA – Garrett Tucker was “goofing off” when he tried his hand at bronc riding 10 years ago, but now he’s riding those wild horses almost every weekend. That was the case June 24-25 as Tucker competed in the 83rd Chickasha Open Rodeo where he finished third in the bronc riding and earned $260.

It has been quite a year for the Oklahoma Sooner sports teams. The football team started off the year by going 11-2 and winning the Alamo Bowl over Oregon with Bob Stoops subbing for the departed Lincoln Riley during the bowl game.

83rd annual Chickasha Rodeo June 24-25

CHICKASHA – A new group of champions will be crowned Saturday when the 83rd annual Chickasha Open Rodeo concludes. The event begins 8 p.m. Friday at the Grady County Fairgrounds. A Saturday parade is set for 4 p.m. in downtown Chickasha.
