Elgin Rodeo set for Aug. 19 - 20

ELGIN – Fans and contestants will come in droves to the 13th annual Elgin Open Rodeo scheduled for Aug. 19-20 with an assortment of food vendors and entertainment. “We usually have anywhere from 1,800 to 2,300 people a night,” said event organizer Tim McIntosh.

Seven Sterling starters return

STERLING – Top-notch hurlers, power hitting, and team speed should propel the Sterling Tigers to another successful baseball season this fall, head coach Brett Holmes said.

Tigers 1-1 after facing Granite, Hydro

STERLING – Strong pitching and timely hitting propelled the Sterling Tigers to a 7-0 win over Hydro Tuesday. Starting pitcher Nate Anderson hurled six innings, allowed two hits, struck out 11 and walked two batters as he earned his first win of the Class A fall season.

Owls sweep Red Tornadoes in season opener

ELGIN – It was a “near perfect” match as the Lady Owls swept past Clinton in three consecutive sets during the team’s volleyball season opener on Tuesday.

Lady O's return eight starters for new season

ELGIN – A mix of seasoned veterans and young players should push the Lady Owls softball team to greater heights this season, head coach Levi Garrett said.

ELGIN – Boys’ cross-country coach Jon Hughes anticipates the Owls will make a second consecutive appearance in the Class 5A state meet as the top five runners return from last year.

Tigers on the prowl for next state title

STERLING – It’s been 14 years since the Sterling Tigers won a state softball title, but longtime coach Marty Curry believes this season bring another golden trophy. “We’ve got a chance to be very good,” he said. “We expect to be very competitive and return to the state tournament.
