Elgin runner captures second meet title of season

ELGIN – Elgin junior runner Audrey McElhaney won her second cross-country meet of the season with a first place showing in the elite division of the Carl Albert Invitational last Friday.

Elgin shows ‘strong chance’ of qualifying for 5A state meet

OKLAHOMA CITY – Competition among Class 5A boys’ cross-country teams has been fierce this season, but Elgin coach Jon Hughes is confident the Owls have a “strong chance” of qualifying for the state meet this year.

RALLY TIME

ANADARKO – Elgin overcame early miscues and rallied behind a strong running attack to post a season-opening 33-14 win over Anadarko last Friday at Warrior Stadium. “They (Anadarko) had a good game plan and wanted to keep the ball away from us,” Elgin head coach Chalmer Wyatt said.

Sterling notches wins against Navajo, Big Pasture

STERLING – Sterling rose to No. 11 in Class A baseball rankings after the Tigers notched run-rule wins over Navajo and Big Pasture last week. Sterling defeated Navajo 11-1 and swept past Big Pasture 11-3 on Aug. 26. With the wins, Sterling improved its record to 12-4.

Boys finish 2nd at Duncan cross country meet

DUNCAN – Elgin boys’ cross-country team finished with an impressive second place showing while senior Hunter Monostari crossed the line in third at the Aug. 27 Duncan meet. “All five who returned from last year ran well, as expected,” head coach Jon Hughes said. “They were all pretty much on pace.

Elgin scores quick win over John Marshall, 12-0

ELGIN – The Lady Owls tallied a quick run-rule 12-0 win over John Marshall Tuesday with six runs in the first inning and six more in the second. Keylee Ranabarger hit a three-run double, Jaemie Johns had two more RBIs and Kelby Carter, Kamber Crow and Jordan Johnson all knocked in a run.

McElhaney, Marrero post 1-2 finish at Duncan meet

DUNCAN – Junior runner Audrey McElhaney passed her first cross-country test of the season with flying color placing first at the Aug. 27 Duncan meet. McElhaney ran a 19:55 in the 5K race as senior teammate Kendyl Marrero placed second with a time of 22:44.
