Sterling needs regional wins to achieve state tourney goal

RATTAN – Sterling started Class A regional tournament action Thursday in the second of two first-round games, with hopes of advancing to the state tournament next week. The Tigers, 22-10 and ranked No. 12, were scheduled to play Amber-Pocasset at 4 p.m. Thursday.

Elgin starts fast, sweeps past El Reno in district opener, 47-8

ELGIN – The undefeated Owls scored early and often as they swept past their first district foe El Reno, 47-8, Friday night at Elgin Stadium. The win marked Elgin’s first 4-0 start in 25 years. The capacity crowd witnessed Elgin get off to a strong start as the Owls scored fast on two drives.

Cameron volleyball loses to NW Oklahoma State

LAWTON -- Cameron lost a non-conference match against Northwestern Oklahoma State University in consecutive sets Tuesday night at Aggie Gym. Northwestern won the sets 26-24, 25-21 and 25-21. Anjolie Navarrete led the Aggies with her seventh double-double of the season with 10 kills and 14 assists.

Lady Tigers claim softball district title with wins over Geronimo

STERLING – Sterling’s Lady Tigers overpowered Geronimo by scoring 26 runs in two district tourney games while advancing to the regional tournament. Sterling defeated Geronimo 13-3 and 13-0 in matchups played Sept. 22. Sterling, 27-6, is ranked No.

Sterling is one win away from Class A state tourney

STERLING – Sterling’s Lady Tigers scored a pair of wins over Hydro-Eakley and Binger-Oney Thursday in the Class A regional tournament. Sterling, which is hosting the tournament, used four home runs against Hydro-Eakley for the 11-8 victory.

Lady Tigers pound Lookeba as district action looms

STERLING – Kalleigh Budd pitched a complete game and two Sterling hitters pounded home runs as the Lady Tigers recorded a 9-0 win over Lookeba-Sickles Monday. The win improved Sterling’s record to 25-6 and pushed the Lady Tigers to No. 5 in the Class A softball rankings.

Sterling rallies to defeat Leedey 9-6

STERLING – After allowing six runs in the first inning, Sterling rallied to post a come-from-behind 9-6 win over Leedey Monday night. The win pushed Sterling’s season mark to 20-8 as the Tigers host district play which started Sept. 22 against Ninnekah.

Elgin aims for first 4-0 start in last 25 years

ELGIN – Elgin head coach Chalmer Wyatt knows the winless El Reno Indians won’t be a cake walk even if his Elgin Owls are undefeated and looking to go 4-0 for the first time in 25 years. “They (El Reno) are tough. They pound the ball and use some clock.

Elgin blitzes Eagles in home opener, 41-10

ELGIN – Elgin’s runaway 41-10 win over Weatherford Friday night pushed the Owls to a 3-0 record for the first time since 2009 when head coach Chalmer Wyatt was a player. “I remember that season (2009). Someone mentioned it to me after the game.
