Tigers tamed by Dragons, knocked out in State Tournament

Sterling 3 Dewar 5

Sterling was pumped up and ready to go as they made the trip to Shawnee to compete in their first State Tournament since 2015.

The Tigers came in to this contest with an all-time 7-13 record in the State Tournament and still searching for their first gold ball in baseball.

Sterling was eager to reverse history; however, Dewar got out to the early lead, scoring two runs in the top of the first inning.

Later on in the third inning, the Dragons drug three runners across the plate to make it 5-0.

The Tigers had runners on base all game long and could not find a way to capitalize until the seventh inning when down to their last out, the Tigers were able to load up the bases. Nate Anderson drew a bases-loaded walk to make it 5-1,

Tyler Pierce did the same to make it 5-2 and prompt a pitching change. Matais Puccio was able to win his eight-pitch battle and drew another walk to make it 5-3.

Sterling had the tying run on second and the winning run on first base with two out.

The Dewar pitcher was able to settle down and get a ground ball to short to record the third out, sending the Tigers home. The Dragons advanced to the Semi-Finals.
