Sooners Sweep into first Champ Series in 28 years

Okla. 13 - Texas A&M 8

Okla. 6 - Notre Dame 2

Okla. 5 - Texas A&M 1

OMAHA, Neb. – Oklahoma found themselves back in Omaha for the first time since 2010 after getting hot in the postseason and going 9-2 in the postseason.

After being picked to finish 6th in the Big XII this year, the Sooners looked to continue the Cinderella story against the Texas A&M Aggies.

OU jumped out on top early when Blake Robertson grounded out to score Peyton Graham to make it 1-0. The red-hot Sooners continued the recent offensive trend as they exploded for seven runs in the second, with the exclamation point being a Jimmy Crooks three-run homer over the right field wall.

A&M responded with a three-run spot in the bottom half of the second inning. Oklahoma got the runs back in the fourth with a Jackson Nicklaus grand slam into the bleachers.

The Aggies responded with one run in the fourth inning and then four runs in the seventh to cut the lead to four.

John Spikerman gave the Sooners insurance in the ninth inning as he singled in a run. The Sooners held on and advanced to 1-0 in the Men’s College World Series.

The Sooners took the field at Charles Schwab Field – this time against the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame.

Oklahoma threw the first punches when Tanner Tredaway and Wallace Clark both had RBI base knocks to make it 2-0.

In the fifth, Clark caused more problems for Notre Dame as he put a ball in play, forcing an error which allowed Tredaway and Crooks to scamper home. That made it 4-0 Sooners. Nicklaus then drove Clark in to make it a five-run lead for Oklahoma.

The Irish jumped back to life in the sixth inning when a two-run shot cut the lead down to three runs. The hope was short lived as Tredaway drove in another run to make it 6-2.

That was all OU need as they slid into the driver’s seat.

It was simple for Oklahoma heading into the National Semifinals. Win and you are in; lose and you get another shot.

The Sooners showed they wanted to get it over with early as Jimmy Crooks flattened a baseball over the outfield wall in the bottom of the first. That gave OU a 3-0 lead. Robertson caused havoc by putting a ball in play forcing an error. That error allowed Graham to score, giving the Sooners a four-run lead.

Tredaway added on insurance in the fifth inning when he singled in Spikerman to give OU a 5-0 lead.

A&M was able to get one run back but that was all as the Sooners continued the roll into the MCWS Championship Series.

Oklahoma will await the winner of Ole Miss and Arkansas game; results were not known at time of publication.
