Owl’s finding stride as season nears end

Elgin hosted the MacArthur Highlanders in a big time 5A-1 District showdown. The Owls jumped out to an early lead thanks to RBIs by Jace Williams and Tres Lorah to make it 2-0. The score remained that way all the way until the bottom of the sixth inning when Nacona Tahdooanippah drove in a runner on an RBI to center to make it 3-0.

The Highlanders then rallied back in the top of the seventh inning scoring three runs to make it 3-3.

This game needed extra innings to seal the deal.

The Owls got the run they needed when Phillip Pryor singled in a run to give Elgin the walk-off win.

The two teams squared off for round two the next night this time at MacArthur. The Highlanders drew first blood this time scoring one run in the bottom of the first inning.

The Owls finally got on the board in the fourth inning when Damien Callagy doubled in a run to tie the game at one.

Later in the frame Nacona Tahdooanippah drove a sacrifice fly into center field to score Williams to give Elgin the lead.

The O’s added another run in the fifth inning when Pryor scampered home to steal home. Then Jace Williams drove in two runners to add on insurance runs.

In the sixth inning Elgin kept the offense hot when Pryor singled in a run and then Jake Thomas tacked on another run by way of a sacrifice fly to stretch the lead to 8-1.

The Highlander offense exploded in the seventh inning as Mac scored six runs to make it a one-run game.

The Owls were able to slam the door and leave the bases loaded to sweep the doubleheader.

 

Elgin looked to finish the week undefeated as they traveled to Clinton to take on the Red Tornadoes.

Clinton got out to an early lead pushing across one run in the first inning.

The Red Tornadoes then batted around the lineup in the second, scoring nine runs to make it 10-0.

The Owls got on the board in the third inning when Tres Lorah drove a sacrifice fly into left field to score a run. Elgin then tacked on two more runs in the frame as Damien Callagy smashed a line drive into the outfield to score two runners.

Elgin then brought in four runs in the fourth inning to make it a three run deficit.

Clinton responded by scoring six runs to stretch the lead back out.

Elgin scored three runs in the fifth inning as well to make it a 16-10 ballgame. After one Clinton run in the bottom half of the fifth, Elgin once again scored three runs in the sixth inning, this time thanks to the bats of Case Clemons, Nate Gonzalez, and Pryor.

The Red Tornadoes brought across two runs in the sixth inning to make it 19-13.

Elgin got close in a hurry when Damien Callagy smashed a ball into right field. The Clinton fielder missed the ball and let it roll past him all the way to the wall allowing three Owls to score.
