Fresh off of an upset victory over archrival Oklahoma to earn the Big XII Softball Championship, Oklahoma State Cowgirls rolled into the NCAA tournament with the No. 7 National Seed. That victory saw the Cowgirls staying in Stillwater to host a Regional.
First up was the Fordham Rams. OSU struck first when Chyenne Factor drove in Kiley Naomi and Taylor Tuck to make it 2-0.
Later in the second, Katelynn Carwile drove in Chelsea Alexander to make it 3-0 OSU.
Karli Petty kept the scoring going in the third inning as she drove in a run on an RBI groundout. Hayley Busby stole home and Alexander drove in another runner to make it 6-0 after the third inning.
In the fourth inning Carwile got the scoring started when she drove a 1-2 pitch over the wall to make it 7-0. Tuck had an RBI groundout to help extend the lead.
The fatal blow came when Julia Cottrill, the Stillwater native, crushed a two out 3-2 pitch over the wall for a grand slam to make it 12-0.
OSU was able to hold on to that lead in the fifth inning and take the victory.
Up next for the Cowgirls, with a trip to the Regional Final on the line, was old Big VIII and Big XII foe, the Nebraska Cornhuskers.
OSU got out to a lead in the second inning when Busby drove a ball down the right field line to score a run to make it 1-0.
Nebraska jumped out to a lead in the fourth inning when a Husker single scored two to make it 2-1.
OSU responded in the bottom half of the inning when Naomi, Alexander, and Carwile all had RBIs in the frame to give the Pokes a 5-2 lead.
Busby did it again in the fifth, scoring a runner on a single, to make it a four-run lead.
Sydney Pennington added on another RBI in the sixth inning off of an RBI double to make it 7-2.
The Huskers responded back on a two-run home run, but that was all they got back as OSU held on to advance to the Regional Final.
Oklahoma State ran into the North Texas Mean Green in the Final.
North Texas Head Coach Rodney Delong Jr. is a Lawton native, and graduate of MacArthur High School.
After a scoreless five innings to start the Final, the Cowgirls, who were acting as the away team, got on the board and out to the lead when Miranda Elish drove the ball over the left field wall for a home run to make it 1-0.
OSU added on an insurance run by way of a fielding error which allowed Morgyn Wynne to reach base and allowed Brianna Evans to score to make it 2-0.
The Cowgirls held on to win the game and the Regionals. They advance to the Super Regionals. OSU will stay at home for the Super Regional as well where they will host the No. 10 Clemson Tigers.
