Thunder wraps up 2022 Summer League

LAS VEGAS – Oklahoma City took on the Sacramento Kings as they continued on with the Summer League schedule. The Kings had the hot hand early as they jumped out to a four-point lead. OKC had a huge second quarter, outscoring Sacramento by 16 points to take a 44-32 lead by halftime.

Both teams settled in and traded buckets back and forth in the third quarter which saw the Thunder gain a 15-point lead starting the fourth quarter. The Kings came running back cutting the Oklahoma City lead down to five-point two separate times in the quarter before the Thunder stopped the momentum swing and held on to win 86-80.

 

Oklahoma City looked to continue the great run in Las Vegas as they took on the defending NBA Champion Golden State Warriors. Both teams traded blows back and forth right out of the gate. OKC had the slight advantage – a one-point lead after the first quarter.

The second quarter saw the Warriors with a little more offensive success as they carried a 43-37 lead into halftime. The third quarter continued the offensive shootout theme as a high-scoring quarter saw the Thunder switch momentum back and take a five-point lead into the fourth quarter. Oklahoma City went on a mini 7-0 run over 2:08 in the fourth quarter to help secure the win over the Warriors.

 

The Thunder looked to finish on a high note and potentially earn a spot in the Summer League Championship game when they took on the New Orleans Pelicans. The Pelicans jumped out to the lead after the first quarter of play by a nine-point margin. A back-and-forth action-packed second quarter saw NOLA go into halftime carrying a ten-point lead.

The Pelicans pulled away a dominant third quarter where they doubled OKC in scoring, which gave New Orleans a 25-point lead. The Pelicans did not let off the gas and continued to pour it on, ultimately winning 107-71.

 

Oklahoma City they finished both the Las Vegas and Salt Lake City Summer Leagues with a 5-3 record. Sophomore Guards Josh Giddey and Tre Mann showed great growth despite not playing the full eight games. First-round picks Chet Holmgren, Jalen Williams, and Ousmane Dieng all showed great potential and look like to another great move by Sam Presti.
