Rainfall totals in Oklahoma averaged 0.17 of an inch for the week of July 4-10, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s National Agricultural Statistics Service.
The July 5 U.S. Drought Monitor Report said drought conditions were rated 64% abnormally dry to exceptional drought, up 18 points from the previous week. Additionally, 31% of the state was in the moderate drought to exceptional drought category, unchanged from the previous week.
Statewide temperatures averaged in the upper 80s. Topsoil and subsoil moisture conditions were rated mostly short to adequate.
Here’s a look at how crops performed for the week:
Small grains: Canola harvested reached 95%, up eight points from the previous year and three points from normal.
Rye harvested reached 95%, up 17 points from the previous year and three points from normal.
Oats harvested reached 70%, up 13 points from the previous year and six points from normal.
Row crops: Corn silk reached 38%, up seven points from the previous year and one point from normal.
Sorghum planted reached 99%, up three points from the previous year and normal. Sorghum headed reached 10%, up two points from the previous year but down four points from normal.
Soybeans planted reached 95%, up 12 points from the previous year and five points from normal. Soybeans emerged reached 76%, up 10 points from the previous year and one point from normal. Soybeans blooming reached 5%, up three points from the previous year but down two points from normal.
Peanuts pegging reached 32%, up three points from the previous year but down four points from normal.
Cotton squaring reached 39%, down three points from the previous year and one point from normal.
Hay: The second cutting of alfalfa hay reached 82%, up four points from the previous year and two points from normal. The third cutting of alfalfa hay reached 7%.
The first cutting of other hay reached 95%, up two points from the previous year and five points from normal. The second cutting of other hay reached 25%, up 14 points from the previous year and five points from normal.
Pasture and livestock: Pasture and range condition was rated at 66% good to fair. Livestock condition was rated at 85% good to fair.
