Rainfall totals in Oklahoma averaged 0.16 of an inch for the week of June 27 through July 3, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s National Agricultural Statistics Service. According to the June 28 U.S. Drought Monitor Report, drought conditions were rated 46% abnormally dry to exceptional drought, up five points from the previous week. Additionally, 31% of the state was in the moderate to exceptional drought category, unchanged from the previous week.
Statewide temperatures averaged in the upper 70s. Topsoil and subsoil moisture conditions were rated mostly adequate to short.
Here’s a snapshot of how crops performed for the week:
Small Grains: Winter wheat harvested reached 98%, up nine points from the previous year and up five points from normal.
Canola harvested reached 87%, up 10 points from the previous year and four points from normal.
Rye harvested reached 88%, up 21 points from the previous year and five points from normal.
Oats harvested reached 50%, up three points from the previous year and two points from normal.
Row Crops: Corn silk reached 30%, up seven points from the previous year and one point from normal.
Sorghum planted reached 93%, up two points from the previous year and one point from normal. Sorghum headed reached 5%, up one point from the previous year but down three points from normal.
Soybeans planted reached 84%, up 16 points from the previous year and three points from normal. Soybeans emerged reached 69%, up 20 points from the previous year and four points from normal.
Peanuts pegging reached 10%, down 11 points from the previous year and 13 points from normal.
Cotton squaring reached 25%, up seven points from the previous year but down two points from normal.
Hay: The second cutting of alfalfa hay reached 68%, up seven points from the previous year but down one point from normal. The first cutting of other hay reached 85%, unchanged from the previous year but up one point from normal.
The second cutting of other hay reached 10%, up five points from the previous year but down four points from normal.
Pasture and Livestock: Pasture and range condition was rated at 79% good to fair. Livestock condition was rated at 88% good to fair.
