Ole Miss 10 - Oklahoma 3
Ole Miss 4 - Oklahoma 2
OMAHA, Neb. – Oklahoma was back in the Championship Series for the first time since 1994 when they took on the Ole Miss Rebels in this year's Championship Series. The Rebs were making their first-ever appearance in the series and only their second trip to Omaha since 1972.
Ole Miss jumped out to an early lead when Kevin Graham singled in a run, and Kemp Alderman smashed a ball causing an error to extend the lead to 2-0.
Justin Baker kept the bats hot for Mississippi when he singled through the right side to extend the lead. The Ole Miss captain, Tim Elko, got a hold of a ball in the third to make it 4-0.
Oklahoma got on the board when Kendall Pettis legged out a bunt single which allowed Jackson Nicklaus on a throwing error to make it 4-1.
Tanner Tredaway then drew a bases-loaded walk to cut the lead in half at 4-2.
In the eighth, TJ McCants, Calvin Harris, and Bench hit back-to-back-to-back home runs to make it 8-2. Blake Robertson drove an RBI single into the outfield to cut into the deficit by driving in Pettis. Peyton Chatagnier and Hayden Dunhurst both had an RBI in the top of the ninth inning to drive the nail in the coffin on game one.
Oklahoma looked to bounce back in game two and force an if-necessary game three.
The Rebels took the lead in the bottom of the sixth inning when Jacob Gonzalez drove a home run over the right-center field wall.
OU answered right back in the top of the seventh when Nicklaus doubled in Jimmy Crooks to tie up the game at one run apiece. Pettis drew a walk with the bases loaded to make it 2-1.
In the eighth inning, Gonzalez singled into the outfield to score McCants to tie the score at 2-2.
Bench later came scampering home on a passed ball to take the lead; Gonzalez then came home on a passed ball as well later in the inning. The Rebels were able to slam the door and close out their first-ever National Championship.
