Rainfall totals in Oklahoma averaged 0.23 of an inch the week of June 26-30, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s National Agricultural Statistics Service.
The June 21 U.S. Drought Monitor Report said drought conditions were rated 41% abnormal to exceptional drought, up one point from the previous week. Additionally, 31% of the state was in the moderate to exceptional drought category, up one point from the previous week.
Statewide temperatures averaged in the lower 80s. Topsoil conditions were rated mostly adequate to short.
Here’s an update on crops for the week:
Small grains: Winter wheat harvested reached 90%, up 14 points from the previous year and eight points from normal.
Canola harvested reached 73%, up seven points from the previous year but down three points from normal.
Rye harvested reached 72%, up 15 points from the previous year but unchanged from normal.
Oats headed reached 95%, unchanged from the previous year but up three points from normal. Oats harvested reached 37%, unchanged from the previous year but down one point from normal.
Row crops: Corn emerged reached 97%, up three points from the previous year and two points from normal. Corn silk reached 18%, up four points from the previous year but unchanged from normal.
Sorghum planted reached 76%, down two points from the previous year and four points from normal.
Soybeans planted reached 75%, up 11 points from the previous year but unchanged from normal. Soybeans emerged reached 57%, up 18 points from the previous year but unchanged from normal.
Peanuts planted reached 95%, up one point from the previous year but unchanged from normal.
Cotton squaring reached 10%, up one point from the previous year but down six points from normal.
Hay: The first cutting of alfalfa hay reached 95%, up one point from the previous year and three points from normal. The second cutting of alfalfa hay reached 50%, up two points from the previous year but down five points from normal.
The first cutting of other hay reached 77%, up one point from the previous year but unchanged from normal. The second cutting of other hay reached 3%, up three points from the previous year.
Pasture and livestock: Pasture and range condition was rated at 75% good to fair. Livestock condition was rated at 88% good to fair.
