It has been quite a year for the Oklahoma Sooner sports teams.
The football team started off the year by going 11-2 and winning the Alamo Bowl over Oregon with Bob Stoops subbing for the departed Lincoln Riley during the bowl game.
OU women’s gymnastics team won the National Championship with the Men’s team coming in with a runner-up finish.
The baseball team is headed to the Championship series after blazing through their bracket. They will face either Arkansas or Ole Miss for the Championship trophy.
Sooner softball may have had what many are considering the best season ever finishing the season with a 59–3 record, including 17–1 in Conference play and a second straight National Championship.
Apparently, the softball world centered around the state of Oklahoma as not only the Sooners won a National Championship, but Rogers State from Claremore as picked up the Division II National Championship. If that wasn’t enough softball gold for one state, the Oklahoma City Stars collected the National Championship to bring their total to 11 Championships in the NAIA.
The Big XII also collected the men’s basketball Championship at the Kansas Jayhawks took home that trophy. Texas also claimed championships in golf and tennis. Texas women’s teams also picked up first-place trophies in rowing and tennis as well as finishing second to OU’s juggernaut softball team.
There were quite a few other Big XII teams that also picked up second-place trophies. What a great year for the Big XII.
As always, stay safe and healthy.
