Rainfall totals in Oklahoma averaged 1.67 inches for the week of May 30-June 5, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s National Agricultural Statistics Service.
According to the May 31 U.S. Drought Monitor Report, drought conditions were rated 49% abnormal to exceptional drought, down four points from the previous week. Additionally, 43% of the state was in the moderate to exceptional drought category, down one point from the previous week.
Statewide temperatures averaged in the lower 70s. Topsoil and subsoil moisture conditions were rated mostly adequate to short.
Here’s a snapshot of how crops fared for the week:
Small grains: Winter wheat harvested reached 15%, up 13 points from the previous year and two points from normal.
Canola coloring reached 72%, up eight points from the previous year but down seven points from normal. Canola harvested reached 5%, up five points from the previous year but down seven points from normal.
Rye harvested reached 14%, up five points from the previous year and two points from normal.
Oats jointing reached 90%, down one point from the previous year but up one point from normal. Oats headed reached 65%, down one point from the previous year and four points from normal.
Row crops: Corn planted reached 83%, up six points from the previous year but down three points from normal. Corn emerged reached 70%, up three points from the previous year but down six points from normal.
Sorghum planted reached 33%, unchanged from the previous year but down nine points from normal.
Soybeans planted reached 42%, up seven points from the previous year but down nine points from normal. Soybeans emerged reached 19%.
Peanuts planted reached 45%, down one point from the previous year and 16 points from normal. Cotton planted reached 53%, up 10 points from the previous year and four points from normal.
Hay: The first cutting of alfalfa hay reached 45%, up two points from the previous year but down 20 points from normal. The first cutting of other hay reached 38%, down 11 points from the previous year and eight points from normal.
Pasture and livestock: Pasture and range condition was rated at 65% good to fair. Livestock condition was rated at 89% good to fair.
