Cowgirls tame Tigers, advance to Women’s College World Series

Okla. State 2 (No. 7) – Clemson 0 (No. 8)

Okla. State 5 – Clemson 1

STILLWATER – Oklahoma State made their fourth all-time Super Regional appearance and their third in a row. The Cowgirls welcomed the Clemson Tigers to Stillwater for the best of three at the Super Regional.

It was a pitcher’s duel early on as this game was scoreless through the first four and a half innings.

In the bottom of the fifth, after a Taylor Tuck double and a Chelsea Alexander walk, OSU was in business.

Cheyenne Factor drove a line-drive single up the middle to bring home Alexander and pinch-runner Brianna Evans to take a 2-0 lead.

That was all the offense needed as Kelly Maxwell threw 13 strikeouts in seven innings. Maxwell allowed only two hits and one walk for the night.

Just one win needed to advance to the WCWS, the Cowgirls kept their momentum rolling into game two against Clemson.

Thanks to an RBI groundout from Factor who scored Alexander, Oklahoma State got off to a quick start in the top of the first inning to make it 1-0.

Cowgirl bats kept swinging in the second inning as Kiley Naomi put a ball in play forcing an error which allowed Karli Petty to score.

Alexander wreaked havoc as she legged out a bunt single to score Julia Cottrill to make it 3-0.

Factor then picked up her fourth RBI of the Super when she grounded into a double play allowing Naomi to score. That made it 4-0 Cowgirls.

Clemson got on board for the first time all weekend in the third inning when McKenzie Clark drove a ball over the centerfield wall.

OSU got that run back in the bottom half of the third as Petty drove a homerun of her own out to centerfield to make it 5-1.

Cowgirls held on from there to take the win and advance to the WCWS for the third straight season, and for the 10th time in school history.

Oklahoma State opened World Series play Thursday night against the Pac-12 Arizona Wildcats. ESPN televised the 8:30 p.m. Central game. Scores were not available at press time.
