Rainfall totals in Oklahoma averaged 2.37 inches for the week of May 23-29, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s National Agricultural Statistics Service.
According to the May 24 US Drought Monitor Report, drought conditions were rated 53% abnormally dry to exceptional drought, down seven points from the previous week. Additionally, 44% of the state was in the moderate to exceptional drought category, down 10 points from the previous week.
Statewide temperatures averaged in the upper 60s. Topsoil and subsoil moisture conditions were rated mostly adequate to short.
Here’s the crop report for the week of May 23-29:
Small grains: Winter wheat harvested reached 6%, up five points from the previous year and four points from normal.
Canola blooming reached 95%. Canola coloring reached 55%, up one point from the previous year but down 13 points from normal.
Rye headed reached 95%. Rye harvested reached 8%, up two points from the previous year and three points from normal.
Oats jointing reached 82%, down two points from the previous year but unchanged from normal. Oats headed reached 55%, down three points from the previous year and five points from normal.
Row crops: Corn planted reached 77%, up eight points from the previous year but down three points from normal. Corn emerged reached 60%, up one point from the previous year but down seven points from normal.
Sorghum planted reached 25%, down four points from the previous year and seven points from normal.
Soybeans planted reached 35%, up eight points from the previous year but down seven points from normal. Soybeans emerged reached 16%.
Peanuts planted reached 32%, down eight points from the previous year and 19 points from normal.
Cotton planted reached 40%, up three points from the previous year and six points from normal.
Hay: The first cutting of alfalfa hay reached 32%, up three points from the previous year but down 17 points from normal. The first cutting of other hay reached 25%, down 12 points from the previous year and 11 points from normal.
Pasture and livestock: Pasture and range condition was rated at 60% good to fair. Livestock condition was rated at 87% good to fair.
