Sooners smash way into supers

Oklahoma continued its dominant year rolling into the NCAA tournament with a 49-2 record.

The Sooners once again stayed at home at Marita Hynes Field in Norman, after earning the No. 1 national seed. The Sooners jumped out to an early lead when home run queen, Jocelyn Alo got caught in between first and second base which allowed the speedy lead-off Jayda Coleman to slide home to make it 1-0.

OU extended the lead when Tiara Jennings drove a ball over the left field wall to make it 2-0. After a quiet second inning, Oklahoma got the bats hot again bringing in four runs to take a commanding 6-0 lead.

Sooner bats used the long ball to help score eight runs in the bottom of the fourth inning; Alo, Turiya Coleman and Grace Lyons all went yard in the frame. A shutdown top of the fifth from the OU defense put an exclamation point on the run-rule win.

Up next in the winners bracket was the Texas A&M Aggies.

Jayda Coleman got OU off to a fast start as she drove a 2-2 pitch out of the ballpark to make it 1-0 early on.

Oklahoma tacked on another run as Lyons doubled in Alo to make it 2-0.

J. Coleman struck again when she doubled in Rylie Boone in the fourth inning. A&M answered back with a two-run home run in the sixth to make it a one-run ballgame.

OU was able to hold on to the lead and slam the door, advancing to the Regional Final.

The Sooners were looking to advance to another Super Regional when they took on A&M in the regional final.

Acting as the away team, OU batted around in the first inning and scored nine runs to take a commanding lead.

Taylon Snow kept the offense going in the second inning when she drove in a run to make it 10-0.

Oklahoma kept going in the third when an Alyssa Brito three-run homer helped spark a four-run inning. The Sooners just kept on rolling taking a 20-0 run-rule victory. OU won the Norman Regional and advanced to the Norman Super Regional.

The No. 1 Sooners will welcome in the No. 16 Central Florida Knights for a best-of-three series with the winner advancing to the Women’s College World Series in Oklahoma City.
