Crawds ‘n Rods

ELGIN – The Ferris wheel against Elgin’s bright blue May sky means one thing – Crawds ‘n Rods is here.

Thanks to Sam’s Amusements, the carnival is set up and this weekend people from across southwest Oklahoma and parts of Texas will make their way to Elgin for the 18th annual Crawds ‘n Rods festival.

Carnival

The carnival is set to run Thursday night from 6-10 p.m., Friday night from 6-11 p.m. and Saturday 11-4 and 5-11. Armbands are available for $25.

For close to two decades the festival has drawn crawdad connoisseurs and car enthusiasts to town. Proceeds from the event support Elgin Volunteer Fire Department’s fire prevention education program, Elgin Fire Chief Mike Baker told Southwest Chronicle.

All-you-can-eat crawfish

On Saturday, from 11 a.m. until gone, for $25 per person, those who attend are welcome to partake in the all-you-can-eat Louisiana crawfish boil. Other gourmandizers can dine on hot dogs, burgers, and fair foodstuffs.

Car show and Burnout competition

Auto fans can enjoy the car show (registration is open from 8-11 a.m.) and burnout competition (lineup at 1:45 p.m.; competition begins at 2:30).

Trophies will be given to first and second place winners for Best In Show, Best Paint, Best Interior and Best Engine as well as two dozen other classes.

And one lucky winner could drive home in a custom 1969 Chevrolet C-10.

Live music

In addition to Saturday’s crawfish boil, car show and burnout competition, live music from local artists such as the Garagemaholics and the Kat Pratt Band and more will run all day long.
