Elgin 0 Carl Albert 11

Elgin Baseball made the trip north up I-44 for the Regional Tournament at Carl Albert. However, their first opponent was another Mid-Del school: the Del City Eagles.

Del City jumped out to the lead scoring one run in the top of the second inning. The Owls responded right away in the bottom half of the frame when Damien Callagy singled, and then later came around to score on a passed ball to tie the game up.

Elgin wasn’t done there, as then Carmine Polito scampered home on another passed ball to take the lead. Elgin doubled that lead in the third inning when Grady Thomas scored Phillip Pryor on a groundout to make it 3-1.

The Owls added on another run when Case Clemons drove in Tres Lorah on a line-drive single to take a three-run lead. That was all the Owls needed as they were able to pull out the victory.

Awaiting in the Winners Bracket was the host Titans of Carl Albert.

The Titans jumped out to a commanding lead in the third inning scoring five runs in the frame. After the Titans tacked on one more in the top of the fifth inning, they went ahead and added another run in the top of the sixth inning to make it 7-0.

Elgin got on the board when Lorah singled in Callagy to make it 7-1. Jace Williams then smashed a ball, causing an error, which allowed Lorah to score to make it 7-2.

The Owls were able to rally for a run in the bottom of the seventh inning when Polito scampered home on a passed ball but that was all as they dropped the contest and fell into the losers bracket.

‘The Owls met up with the Eagles again looking to punch a ticket into the Regional Final.

Elgin took the early lead when Nacona Tahdooanippah singled in Polito to make it 1-0.

The Owls’ offense caught fire in the third inning, scoring five runs in the frame to take a commanding lead. Both teams traded a run back and forth in the fifth inning to make it 7-1.

Del City trimmed the lead down, scoring a run in the top of the sixth. Elgin answered back with three runs, thanks to the bat of Williams who smashed a three-run home run over the left field wall.

That was all the offense the O’s needed as they rolled to a Regional Final appearance.

Things only got tougher as Elgin needed to beat Carl Albert twice to advance to the State Tournament.

After a scoreless first inning, the Titans put two runs on the board in the second. It was then three runs in the third inning, and six runs in the fourth inning to set up the run rule.

The Owls managed six hits in the contest: two from Pryor; two from Williams, and a hit apiece for Jake Thomas and Lorah.

Elgin could not muster any runs however, and saw their season come to an end in the Regional Final.
