FORT SILL – The B.O.S.S. House, a new meeting place for the Better Opportunities for Single Soldiers program and a place where Army personnel training at Fort Sill can relax and unwind, opened May 13 with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
“It’s a place for Soldiers to get information about B.O.S.S. and basically escape the stressors of the military and meet other Soldiers,” said Sgt. Tyler Yount, B.O.S.S. president.
The new B.O.S.S. House is decked with recliners, flat-screen televisions, a pool table, ping pong table, and game stations.
The mission of the B.O.S.S. program is to enhance the morale and welfare of single Soldiers, increase retention and sustain combat readiness. The B.O.S.S. program focuses on three core components aimed at maintaining a balanced life: leisure and recreation, community service, and ensuring quality of life.
B.O.S.S. Soldiers are active in the Lawton-Fort Sill Community. Most recently they volunteered for the Lawton Trash Off, the Special Olympics, and were recognized by the city for their efforts in making the last Fourth of July celebration in Lawton a success.
Five Fort Sill Soldiers recently spent four days helping with renovations at Elgin’s baseball park, painting the bleachers and awning, Mayor J.J. Francais said.
The B.O.S.S. program also gives Fort Sill leaders better insight into issues single Soldiers may face and the ability to fix those issues through peer-to-peer leadership.
Fort Sill trains more than 18,000 Soldiers each year.
