ELGIN – The Elgin City Council will call for a new election to fill an empty seat on the council, Mayor JJ Francais said Tuesday.
The council originally scheduled a special election for June 28 to fill the Ward 2 slot, which has been vacant since former Councilman Eric Bradford resigned abruptly in January. However, no one had filed a declaration of candidacy for the position by the April 22 deadline, according to the Comanche County Election Board office.
The boundaries of Elgin’s voting wards are being redrawn to account for shifts in the city’s population, a process known as redistricting.
Francais said the council will vote on the new wards within 60 days and call for a new election after the wards are approved.
