Owls have rough week, drop three games

Elgin faced off against the Noble Bears to make up for a rained out earlier contest. The visiting Bears jumped out on top in the second inning scoring two runs to take control early on.

Noble then stretched that lead in the top of the third inning adding on a run to make it 3-0.

The Bears offense stayed hot in the fourth, tallying in three runs to take command. Elgin answered back by getting on the board when Nacona Tahdooanippah and Jace Williams both had RBI base hits to score a pair of Owls and make it 6-2.

The Owls closed the gap even further in the bottom of the sixth, as Damien Callagy hit a sacrifice fly to score Phillip Pryor to cut the lead to three runs.

Noble tacked on an insurance run in the top of the seventh inning and then slammed the door in the bottom half to take the victory.

Elgin looked to bounce back against the Piedmont Wildcats.

Piedmont jumped out to an early lead in the bottom of the first inning putting one run on the scoreboard. The Wildcats added on to that lead bringing two ‘Cats across the plate to score to make it 3-0 after four innings.

The Owls offense woke up in the top of the fifth when Rhett Vaughn had an RBI groundout to score Tres Lorah. Then later in the frame Nate Gonzalez drove in Grady Thomas on an RBI double to cut the lead down to one run.

Piedmont answered back with two runs in the bottom half of the inning to stretch the lead to three.

Elgin could not muster any more offense and dropped the contest to the Wildcats.

Elgin looked to finish the week on a positive note taking on the Claremore Zebras. Claremore got on the board first in the bottom of the fourth inning scoring four Zebras and taking an early commanding lead.

Elgin chipped away at the deficit in the fourth, thanks to a Tahdooanippah RBI single to make it 4-1.

The Owls cut the lead down further in the fifth inning, thanks to a sacrifice fly by Pryor and a line-drive single from Jake Thomas.

Claremore answered back in the bottom half, scoring one run to take the lead back to two. The Zebras went into the bottom of the sixth, looking for insurance and got it by way of four runs to retake their commanding lead.

The Owls kept on fighting in the seventh. Jake Thomas smashed a ground ball at the shortstop forcing an error that allowed two runners to score. That took the lead down to four runs.

Elgin’s rally was shut down there as they dropped the contest to the Zebras.
