Elgin 1 Yukon 9
Elgin 1 Noble 2
Elgin traveled to Yukon to take on the Millers after the Cache Bulldogs were unable to play due to undisclosed circumstances.
The Millers jumped out to an early lead, scoring five runs in the bottom of the first inning. Yukon tacked on to the lead with a sacrifice fly in the second inning. The Owls got on the board when Damien Callagy smashed the ball past the third baseman to drive in Grady Thomas.
Yukon responded in the bottom of the sixth inning bringing three runs across capped off by a single into center field to secure the run-rule victory.
Elgin looked to continue the battle for a 5A-1 crown when taking on the Noble Bears in Noble. This game was a pitchers’ duel through and through.
Case Clemons gave the Owls an early lead when he singled into left field to score Jace Williams. The Bears had a beautiful relay from the outfield to gun down Jake Thomas at the plate who was looking to extend the lead.
Noble tied the game up in the bottom of the fourth when a seeing eye single squeaked through the middle.
The score remained knotted at one until the bottom of the seventh. With two runners in scoring position and one out, Noble drove a fly ball into center field and the relay throw in was not in time to give the Bears a walk off win.
Elgin was supposed to square off against Noble on Tuesday, April 19 for game two of the district series, however the contest was canceled due to rain.
The rescheduled date is not known at the time of publication.
