For the first time as a Class 5A school, Elgin’s band has earned the State Sweepstakes Award presented through the Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association.
“To earn this award, the band had to receive superior ratings at the OSSAA Regional Marching Band Contest back in October and Superior ratings at yesterday’s OSSAA State Concert Band Contest and Sightreading Contest,” stated Mike Palmer, director of Performing Arts and Bands for Elgin Public Schools.
Previously the band earned Sweepstakes in Class 4A in 2015, 2016, 2018, and 2021, Palmer reported.
