Gage McElhaney wins Cross Country Gold

EDMOND - Even ice storms couldn’t stop Gage McElhaney from winning Cross Country Gold.

The Class 5A Cross Country meet was originally scheduled to be ran on Saturday, Oct. 31 was delayed until Wednesday, Nov. 4 due to damage on the course at Edmond Santa Fe from the recent ice storm.

Gage, coming off a fourth place finish at Regionals on Oct. 24, finished the race in the time of 16:10.08 with his closet competitor over four seconds behind.

Gage won the first individual Cross Country Gold medal for Elgin High School.

Gage, who plays baseball as well, has scholarship offers in both cross country and baseball but is still undecided which sport he will purse in college.

Elgin boys finished in 10th place overall in the meet with Hunter Monostori, Jordan Pierce, Jeremy McCracken and Ben Roberts also running for the Owls.

Piedmont won the overall State title followed by Tahlequah, Guy- mon, Bishop Kelly and Sapulpa to round out the top 5.

The Lady Owls also qualified their team for the State Meet and  had Audrey McCelhaney and Kendyl Marrero finish in a three way tie with Sydnie Cox from Piedmont in 41st place.

Delaney York crossed the finish line with multiple runners for a 56th place finish.

Maegan Flanders rounded out the field for the Lady Owls com- ing home in the time of 23:39.04.

Bishop Kelley won the girls overall State Championship fol- lowed by Noble, Sapulpa, Coweta and Tahlequah rounding out the ladies top 5.

Elgin’s Boys Cross Country team is coached by Jon Hughes, with the ladies being coached by Tomi Lorah.
