Elgin holds on for 60-50 win over Altus Bulldogs

ALTUS – Timely shooting and free throws propelled the Elgin Owls to a 60-50 season-opening win over the Altus Bulldogs Tuesday night. The win wasn’t without its issues including foul trouble by Elgin big man Christian Reed and an injury to versatile guard Jake Lohman.

Lady Owls overcome shooting woes for 55-38 win

ALTUS – Nerves aside, Elgin’s Lady Owls overcame some early shooting struggles to post a season-opening 55-38 win over the Altus Lady Bulldogs Tuesday. Midway through the third period, Elgin came alive and began to sink the shots the Lady Owls were expected to make earlier in the game.

Support needed for Elgin Animal Shelter

Elgin Animal Shelter is asking for donations to help provide for the animals. Currently the animals need:  • Purina Dry Dog/Cat/Puppy/Kitten Chow.  • Dog treats. • Kong/tough toys. • Stainless steel food/water bowls. • Non-clumping clay cat litter.  • Litter pans.

Pirate duck?

The gadwall is a winter visitor to Oklahoma and is this week’s featured creature. It doesn’t really stand out very much, as it is fairly plain, as far as ducks go. The Cornell Lab of Ornithology calls it an “understated elegance.” But the closer you get to one, the more interesting it becomes.

ELGIN – Confidence will play a critical role in the success level Elgin’s girls’ basketball team enjoys this season, according to new head coach Brett Sanders.

ELGIN – Elgin baseball player Jake Thomas signed a letter of intent Wednesday to play for Seminole State College next season. Thomas was surrounded by teammates, coaches and family members during the signing.
