LAWTON – Tuesday’s ballot will include a runoff election for the District 1 seat on the Comanche County Board of Commissioners.
The incumbent, Commissioner Gail Turner, is competing against challenger John O’Brien in the GOP race for the District 1 seat. The winner of the runoff election will claim the seat, as no Democrats are running.
Turner and O’Brien emerged from the June 28 primary election as the top two vote-getters in a three-way race for the commission seat. Turner led the field with 983 votes, or 44.14% of the total, while O’Brien came in second with 710 votes – 31.88% of the total.
Either Turner or O’Brien needed to capture a simple majority of the vote – 50% plus one vote – to avoid a runoff. Neither candidate reached that threshold, setting up a runoff election.
