Oklahoma rainfall averages less than 1 inch

Rainfall totals in Oklahoma averaged 0.05 of an inch for the week of June 13-19, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s National Agricultural Statistics Service.

The June 14 U.S. Drought Monitor Report said drought conditions were rated 40% abnormally dry to exceptional drought, down three points from the previous week. Additionally, 30% of the state was in the moderate to exceptional drought category, down five points from the previous week.

Statewide temperatures averaged in the lower 80s. Topsoil and subsoil moisture conditions were rated mostly adequate to short.

Here’s a look at how crops performed for the week:

Small grains: Winter wheat harvested reached 72%, up 28 points from the previous year and 12 points from normal.

Canola coloring reached 95%, up two points from the previous year but down one point from normal. Canola harvested reached 50%, up 14 points from the previous year but down nine points from normal.

Rye harvested reached 52%, up 17 points from the previous year but down two points from normal.

Oats headed reached 91%, unchanged from the previous year but up three points from normal. Oats harvested reached 20%, up two points from the previous year but down three points from normal.

Row crops: Corn planted reached 96%, up one point from the previous year and from normal. Corn emerged reached 89%, up one point from the previous year but down four points from normal.

Sorghum planted reached 60%, unchanged from the previous year but down seven points from normal.

Soybeans planted reached 65%, up nine points from the previous year but down two points from normal. Soybeans emerged reached 40%.

Peanuts planted reached 80%, down eight points from the previous year and 10 points from normal. Cotton planted reached 78%, up five points from the previous year but down six points from normal.

Hay: The first cutting of alfalfa hay reached 88%, down one point from the previous year but up one point from normal. The second cutting of alfalfa hay reached 25%, down nine points from the previous year and 14 points from normal.

The first cutting of other hay reached 69%, up one point from the previous year but unchanged from normal.

Pasture and livestock: Pasture and range condition was rated at 73% good to fair. Livestock condition was rated at 87% good to fair.
