ELGIN – The Elgin City Council has moved forward with plans to adopting a fee schedule for building inspections but has not approved the schedule yet.
The council voted April 12 to establish the fee schedule but will discuss the actual fees at the May meeting.
“Council, you’ll have another bite at this next month when we approve a larger fee schedule that will readdress the fees as well,” said Mayor J Francais.
The council previously approved a contract for inspection and zoning services with the Virginia-based nonprofit company IBTS, which provides a variety of services for municipal governments. The fee schedule, which is designed to be revenue neutral, is the next step in the process.
