Elgin designates Oct. 31 for trick-or-treat night

ELGIN – Halloween falls on a Monday this year, prompting some Oklahoma cities to move their official trick-or-treat night to another day. But Elgin is sticking with the traditional date. In a special meeting Monday, the Elgin City Council voted 3-0 to designate 6-8 p.m. Oct.

Elgin creates position to oversee street projects

ELGIN – Elgin City Council has added a new position to the city’s staff. The council voted 4-0 Tuesday to create the new position of streets and parks superintendent, who will oversee street projects among other tasks.

How big is ‘Battle of the Wichitas’ rivalry?

ELGIN – The Elgin-Cache football game has been billed “Battle of the Wichitas” for several years, which leads fans from both sides to claim the gridiron matchup as a big rivalry. “It’s going to be a big game with a big crowd,” Elgin head coach Chalmer Wyatt said.

Blanchard downs Elgin twice in doubleheader

ELGIN – Blanchard won a pair of games Tuesday as the Elgin Lady Owls couldn’t muster enough offense in either contest. In the first game, Blanchard held on to win 8-6 even as Elgin was making a late rally.

Elgin runner captures second meet title of season

ELGIN – Elgin junior runner Audrey McElhaney won her second cross-country meet of the season with a first place showing in the elite division of the Carl Albert Invitational last Friday.

Elgin shows ‘strong chance’ of qualifying for 5A state meet

OKLAHOMA CITY – Competition among Class 5A boys’ cross-country teams has been fierce this season, but Elgin coach Jon Hughes is confident the Owls have a “strong chance” of qualifying for the state meet this year.

RALLY TIME

ANADARKO – Elgin overcame early miscues and rallied behind a strong running attack to post a season-opening 33-14 win over Anadarko last Friday at Warrior Stadium. “They (Anadarko) had a good game plan and wanted to keep the ball away from us,” Elgin head coach Chalmer Wyatt said.

Elgin Animal Shelter is seeking donations to help provide for the animals. Currently the animals need: • Purina Dog/Cat/Puppy/Kitten Chow. • Dog treats. • Kong/tough toys. • Stainless steel food/water bowls. • Non-clumping clay cat litter. • Litter pans. • Wire- or hard-sided crates.
