Elgin sets spring election date

ELGIN — Voters in Wards 2 and 4 will decide in the spring who will represent them on the Elgin City Council for the next four years. The council voted unanimously Dec. 13 to call for a nonpartisan municipal election on April 4, 2023. Candidates must file their declarations of candidacy between 8 a.

Grapplers win second dual, crown tourney champs

ELGIN – Elgin grapplers notched their second dual win of the season with a close 37-33 victory over Weatherford Tuesday night. “Overall, I’m pleased because we knew Weatherford was good. We were able to get a win so that was good,” Elgin head coach Cody Rowell said. Weatherford is ranked No.

Elgin holds on for 60-50 win over Altus Bulldogs

ALTUS – Timely shooting and free throws propelled the Elgin Owls to a 60-50 season-opening win over the Altus Bulldogs Tuesday night. The win wasn’t without its issues including foul trouble by Elgin big man Christian Reed and an injury to versatile guard Jake Lohman.

Lady Owls overcome shooting woes for 55-38 win

ALTUS – Nerves aside, Elgin’s Lady Owls overcame some early shooting struggles to post a season-opening 55-38 win over the Altus Lady Bulldogs Tuesday. Midway through the third period, Elgin came alive and began to sink the shots the Lady Owls were expected to make earlier in the game.

Elgin Animal Shelter is asking for donations to help provide for the animals. Currently the animals need:  • Purina Dry Dog/Cat/Puppy/Kitten Chow.  • Dog treats. • Kong/tough toys. • Stainless steel food/water bowls. • Non-clumping clay cat litter.  • Litter pans.
