Boys finish 2nd at Duncan cross country meet

DUNCAN – Elgin boys’ cross-country team finished with an impressive second place showing while senior Hunter Monostari crossed the line in third at the Aug. 27 Duncan meet. “All five who returned from last year ran well, as expected,” head coach Jon Hughes said. “They were all pretty much on pace.

McElhaney, Marrero post 1-2 finish at Duncan meet

DUNCAN – Junior runner Audrey McElhaney passed her first cross-country test of the season with flying color placing first at the Aug. 27 Duncan meet. McElhaney ran a 19:55 in the 5K race as senior teammate Kendyl Marrero placed second with a time of 22:44.

ELGIN – After retiring from the U.S. Army, Elgin resident Lawrence MacDonald decided to start his own business. “When I grew up, my dad had a construction company, so I kind of knew that – a little bit of that,” MacDonald said Wednesday. “And so, that’s just kind of what I went with.

ELGIN – Elgin Community Library recently launched Brainfuse, an online service that offers tutoring for students, coaching for job seekers and navigators to help veterans access benefits and educational opportunities.

Fans, contestants ready for 13th annual Elgin rodeo

ELGIN – Fans and contestants will come in droves to the 13th annual Elgin Open Rodeo scheduled for Aug. 19-20 with an assortment of food vendors and entertainment. “We usually have anywhere from 1,800 to 2,300 people a night,” said event organizer Tim McIntosh.

Moving to 5A challenging, but Wyatt optimistic about returning starters

ELGIN – Moving to Class 5A will certainly be a challenge for the Elgin Owls when the 2022 football season kicks off, but fourth-year head coach Chalmer Wyatt has no doubts his team will be ready for battle.
