LAWTON – Lawton Speedway racing season kept on moving along as IMCA RaceSaver Sprints, USRA Limited modifieds, Factory Stocks, Wingless Limited Sprints, and Mini Stocks took to the track on Saturday, May 14.
IMCA RaceSaver Sprints
In heat one of the IMCA RaceSaver Sprints, Gary Owens’ No. 33 led flag to flag to take the win.
In heat two, the 13C machine of Brady Courtney also pulled away from pole position to take the checkered flag.
In the last heat of the night, Cody Whitworth’s No. 50 continued the pole position dominance as he drove away for the win.
In the feature, Courtney’s 13C started on the outside pole and fell back one spot to finish in third. Joe Bob Lee from Cache, who started fourth, slid into play runner-up to Owens who hails from Pauls Valley.
Owens, who started on the pole, went on to take the victory.
USRA Limited Modifieds
In heat one of the USRA Limited Modifieds, Jonathan Powers’ 29J took the win, while the 09 of Robert Elliot was the hard charger going from seventh to second.
In heat two, reigning track champion Shane Little wheeled his No. 132 machine from fourth to first to take the win.
Tyler Webb’s 56W car rolled onto the track for heat 3.
All the way from seventh place, he fought his way through the field to take the checkered flag and the win.
Josh Cournoyer wheeled his No. 41 car into third place after starting 11th in the feature.
Webb bumped up one spot to second after taking the track in third place.
The champ reigned supreme as Shane Little got the jump on the outside pole and never looked back.
Mini Stocks
In the Minis, Dakota Davies and his No. 69 machine took the victory in heat one, while Carl Mitchell took the victory of heat two, and in the third and final heat, Shane Henning, No. 19, took the victory.
In familiar fashion, Davies took off at the start of the feature and cruised to a victory helping him build an early points lead on his path to defend his track title.
Wingless Limited Sprints
In heat one of the Wingless Limited Sprints, Norman’s Tommy Holder took the victory, while in heat two it was Blanchard native Jimmy Smith who wheeled his 7A car across the finish line first. Those two remained at the front during the feature as Smith took the victory; Holder finished second. Defending champion TJ Herrell from Wichita Falls finished third.
USRA Factory Stocks
Last but not least was the USRA Factory Stocks.
Stephen Torrez took his No. 6 car to the front and took the win in heat one.
Ricky Ybarra’s 99Y car started on the pole and finished in first place in heat two. John Nemetz rolled his machine into the track for the feature in fifth place and was able to battle his way to third place.
The 02 car of Bobby Miller started on the pole and slid back into second place for his finishing position.
From the outside pole position, Torrez wheeled on to victory lane.
