Elgin took on the Calumet Lady Chieftains to open up the Fletcher Tournament. Elgin jumped out to an early lead, scoring four runs in the bottom of the first inning.
The Lady Owls kept pouring it on in the second, bringing in five runs to score to make it 9-0.
Calumet answered back in the top of the third inning with four runs of their own. The Lady Owls came out in the third inning and put up their second five-run inning of the contest to make it 14-4.
Elgin was able to hold on for the run-rule win.
Up next was the Canute Trojanettes.
Canute was able to get out to an early three-run lead after the top of the first inning. The Trojanettes took control of the game in the second, scoring seven runs to make it 10-0.
Elgin finally got on the board thanks to Sadie Arnold, Hailey Rivers and Jaemie Johns who all had RBIs in the inning.
Canute answered back with six runs in the top of the third inning to put the run rule in effect.
The Lady Owls took the run rule out of effect in the bottom half of the inning scoring nine runs.
Canute tacked on four runs in the fourth inning to put the run rule back into effect and Elgin could not rally again and dropped the contest.
Up next for the Lady Owls was the Central High Lady Bronchos.
The Lady Bronchos got out to an early 1-0 lead. That was when the Owls came soaring back scoring 11 runs in the bottom of the first, to take a commanding lead. Central High chipped away with one run in the top of the second inning and then five in the third inning to make it 11-7.
Both teams traded three runs back and forth making it 14-10 heading to the bottom of the fifth inning.
Elgin tacked on two more insurance runs off the bat of Hannah Endicott to make it 16-10. The Lady Owls went on to win and advance in the tournament.
Up next was the Cyril Lady Pirates.
Cyril jumped out to an early two-run lead in the top of the first inning. Elgin answered back with two runs thanks to Jordan Johnson.
The score remained the same until the sixth when Cyril scored three runs to take the lead.
The Lady Pirates then tacked on five runs of insurance in the top of the seventh inning.
Elgin was not able to answer back and dropped the contest to get eliminated from the Fletcher Tournament.
